The Jam On It Boys Program is under the direction of our founder Matt Williams. Coach Williams has over 25 years of experience in operating a high-level basketball program. All of our coaches withhold high standards of integrity, demeanor, and a strong fundamental background in the game of basketball.
Jam On It travel teams are coached by a staff with strong foundations in basketball fundamentals. Our coaches will assist each child in developing as a player and a teammate.

The main principles to which we subscribe as Coaches are:
Creating an atmosphere of mutual respect between players and coaches. We will respect each others’ thoughts and opinions and thus foster a confidence in each other as well.
Each person will be taught to take responsibility for their actions whether it be on or off the court or in the classroom.
Hard work is expected of all staff and team members. We will learn to be focused and intense during practice times.
Positive reinforcement will be the norm for the coaching environment. It is our goal to build confidence in each player while we teach.
Each coach must be a “motivator”! We will constantly draw on numerous verbal and behavioral strategies that will keep players fresh, playing well and working hard. We believe it is important to motivate on both a team and individual level. Ideally coaches should determine each players’ motivational needs before the playing season begins. Motivational talks during the season will be used to keep practices intense, yet fun and pre-game and post-game inspirational.
We must foster a “Winning Mentality” from DAY ONE. Coaches and players will accentuate their successes and learn from their mistakes…there is always a way to learn from yesterdays mistakes.
Consistency is the mark of a good team and of a good coach. We strive to be consistent in our coaching techniques and demands on our players.
Our teams have often been the “David” rather than the “Goliath”, but we have still slain our share of giants using five key weapons:
Playing to exhaustion and outworking your opponent. We will win games simply by wearing out less conditioned teams. An advantageous by-product of the full court game is that a lot of people get to play and thus the players develop faster than they would “sitting the bench”.
Systematic approach to pressure player-to-player half court and full court defense. You don’t have to have great skills to play great defense. In general, a third of practice will be devoted to defensive drills and instruction.
Pushing the tempo of the game, emphasizing transition offense, beating the defense down the court and capitalizing if we have the advantage. Our half court offenses will be designed around our player’s strengths. We will work for high percentage shots. Players will learn to read the defense and create offensively. Shooting, ball handling and playmaking are three major emphases for the perimeter players. Scoring one-on-one in the low block and mid-range shots will be the main focus for the posts.
Emphasizing rebounding as the most important statistic at the end of the game. A consistent team goal is to out-rebound our opponent. There be constant drills on boxing out, anticipating shots and moving quickly to the ball.
Teaching and cultivating metal toughness as a basketball skill. Coaches must train the minds of their players to control and optimize their skills. Concentration + Visualization + Pushing the Body to the Limit + Reinforcement of Success + Believing in Oneself = A Winner’s Mentality.
